What wedding albums do you offer?

The inclusion of a disc of images in our wedding photography packages means you are free to make your own prints and album. However, as professional photographers, we are skilled in storybook album design and have access to fantastic wedding albums not available to the general public.

We’ve searched high and low for the very best album makers and believe we’ve found them in Folio Albums. Their albums are just gorgeous! We lovingly design album layouts to best tell the story of your wedding day, with different combinations of images across each spread and a clean classic look that won’t date. What is in your wedding photography kit bags?

We believe in using only the very best professional photographic equipment in our work and have invested heavily to this effect. We use Nikon gear including professional full frame digital SLRs, numerous professional lenses (including zooms for unobtrusive shots, fast primes perfect for low light shots and a macro for close up detail shots), mobile lighting equipment and monopods and tripods. We have back ups for our equipment including additional digital SLR bodies and lenses and all our equipment is insured. We also bring lots of other useful things to the weddings we photograph from safety pins to plasters to a selection of umbrellas.

Why do you shoot digitally?

We feel there are many benefits to the switch we made from film to digital photographic equipment. When we used film we were limited to how many pictures we could take whereas now we have sufficient capacity on our memory cards to hold thousands of shots. This means we can take more pictures at your wedding which allows for fun experimentation alongside ‘safer’ shots and enables us to produce hundreds of beautiful final images for you. Digital also allows us to assess our shots as we go and check for people blinking and any other issues which might require a picture re-take.

After your wedding, having digital rather than film negatives allows us to better continue to work with and enhance your images. We can provide you with black and white or sepia copies of images alongside colour versions, add other effects such as vintage washes or vignetting and remove background distractions to name a few.

In addition, the latest professional digital SLRs such as those we use produce high quality prints A3 sized and larger. Make sure you check how current the equipment of photographers who have gone digital is though, as there have been huge advances made since the early models of digital SLRs were released.

What is your style?

Our style is natural and flexible. We spend time before your wedding day getting to know what photographic styles you like and what images are particularly important for us to capture and we then use an appropriate mix of reportage and directed shots on the day to achieve what you are after. We love to take unobtrusive, candid photographs of you and your guests that really capture the true emotion of the day. However, we are also more than happy to set up and take a limited number of group shots (whether formal or fun or a mixture of the two) and we also know when to use some gentle direction to get images that look un-posed but would be impossible without a little amount of prompting.

Why do you always photograph weddings together?

A lot happens on a wedding day and we find working as a pair results enables much better coverage of your wedding in a much less obtrusive way. Sarah can be photographing the bridal preparations whilst Mark is with the groom and his party, we can take photographs of important parts of the day such as the ceremony and speeches from different perspectives without the distraction of moving around, one of us can take reportage shots of the guests arriving and mingling at the reception while the other sneaks the bride and groom off for a couple photo shoot, and the possibilities go on. Working together also means we can assist for each other when necessary, such as with special lighting or equipment and when shooting outside in bad weather.

Do you travel for weddings?

We are based in the North East of England and so cover the Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham areas as standard. However, we are more than happy to travel throughout the rest of the UK and overseas for weddings too and charge for this based on actual travel and accommodation costs only, so we will provide you with an individual quote for this where applicable. Please note that as we have family in Yorkshire and the North West, we usually only need to charge for travel and not accommodation for weddings in these areas.
